Dear Licensed Veterinary Technicians:
The Bureau of Professional Licensing (BPL) within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) would like to clarify the continuing education requirements for veterinary technicians.
The Public Health Code, MCL 333.18813 (2), requires veterinary technicians to submit evidence that 15 hours of board-approved continuing education courses or programs were completed during the 3 years immediately preceding the application for renewal. Licensees who have been licensed for the 3-year period immediately preceding the application for renewal must complete at least 15 hours of continuing education that satisfies the requirements of R 338.4993 to renew their licenses beginning with licenses expiring on or after 12/31/2022, and all renewals thereafter.
If you have any questions, please contact our office at (517) 241-0199 or by email to BPLHELP@michigan.gov.
Sincerely,
Licensing Division
Bureau of Professional Licensing
